Our Story So Far


Shilou was founded in March 2006 by husband and wife team, Louise and Bill Fleming, and launched to great acclaim later that same year, at The London Furniture Show.

The aim was to create a collection of beautiful bespoke furniture that had a timeless elegance, influenced by the ever-popular Art Deco style.  Luxury, real wood veneers such as macassar ebony gave our pieces an opulent feel – yet we worked hard to keep our prices reasonable and accessible to a wide variety of clients.

Our initial collection back in 2006 consisted of around 45 unique items (dining tables, sideboards, bedsides, tallboys and occasional tables and consoles) and our manufacturing was carried out in China under strict quality guidelines.

Over the first 3 years, we quickly developed a large client base of designers and retailers as well as working on some quite substantial hotel projects.  We have continued to develop our classic contemporary furniture collection by adding new pieces and refining and improving standard items and we now offer around 80-100 pieces.

Our biggest development occurred early in 2012 when we made the decision to move our manufacturing to the UK – we are now incredibly proud to  be 100% British Made.

This has most definitely been the right decision as it has enabled us to improve our already high quality standards as well as offering a better customer service – especially regarding lead times and after care.  And most excitingly, we can now offer a fully bespoke service which is something we were continually asked for!

Our aim is still to offer quality furniture, elegant designs and bespoke pieces at an affordable price.  With this in mind, we are keeping our base in Lichfield meaning that we can offer London (Chelsea Harbour) quality and design at a third of the price.

Going forward, we continue to develop new pieces of furniture, using different and exciting veneers but sticking with our Art Deco influence.  We are also building on our relationships with overseas designers and retailers and look forward to turning  Shilou into a truly global brand over the next few years.


What We Do


Our furniture is hand crafted in England by teams of craftsmen with generations of experience.

Shilou specialize in creating furniture of the very highest quality including dining tables and chairs, sideboards and cabinets, occasional and console tables, bedside cabinets, tallboys and dressing tables for private homes, high-end residential developments, luxury hotels of all sizes, yachts and boardrooms.

We offer a fully bespoke, made-to-measure design service to suit any given project or room size meaning that wood finishes, dimensions and handles can all be specified to meet your individual requirements.

For bespoke items (and changes to standard items) we will ensure that drawings, wood samples, handle samples etc are all supplied and signed off.

Meet The Team

Louise Fleming – Founder & MD

Louise has always had an interest in Art, Architecture and History which led her to study both Classics and Museum Management at University in the early 1990s.  As well as a passion for all things Greek and Roman, Louise is particularly interested in the 1920s and 30s which is what inspired her to set up Shilou with its collection of Art Deco inspired furniture.

Louise manages all the day to day running of the business – liaising with both Clients and the Workshop to ensure that the end results are exactly what is required.  She has a great attention to detail and is passionate about customer service – often going above and beyond to make sure that our customers’ expectations are exceeded where possible.

She is always on the look out for inspiration for new designs – devouring Art Deco art, history, architecture and literature for ideas!


Dianne Brabham – Sales Consultant

After a career in customer service, training, sales and marketing in various market sectors, including five years with P&O Cruises travelling the world, Dianne has, over the last 15 years, concentrated on property sourcing and sales as well as promoting Shilou’s range of furniture.   Her extensive customer service background gives her the experience to approach property investing and bespoke furniture sales in a dedicated and calm manner, never phased by the myriad of issues that are always present.

Her life experience has proved more challenging and varied than any university degree would ever have qualified her for, and she feels she has graduated in life many times over!


Bill Fleming - Director – Bespoke Design & Contract Furniture

With a background spanning 15 years as an engineer and designer, Bill is our technical guru!  His job is to take ideas and concepts and translate them into manufacturing drawings that can be turned into beautiful pieces of furniture by our craftsmen.  Bill also takes charge of our larger projects, managing the production schedule, delivery and installation logistics to ensure everything goes smoothly on site.

We work with a dedicated team of craftsmen – with generations of experience between them.  They all have a high attention to detail and aim to achieve perfection with every piece of furniture they make.
